Greene County, NY — January 19, 2026, two people sustained injuries following an 18-wheeler accident at around 6:50 p.m. on the NY State Thruway.
According to officials from the New York State Police, the crash involved at least three vehicles and occurred on both northbound and southbound lanes.
It appears that there was an initial collision between a northbound 18-wheeler and a Honda Accord. The cause of that accident is unclear right now. This sent the 18-wheeler through a guardrail and ultimately into southbound lanes. There, the truck and an oncoming SUV collided.
Both the SUV driver and the truck driver were taken to a hospital. Their injuries were reportedly non-life-threatening. No other injuries were reported. Additional details are unavailable at this time.

The fact this truck wreck spans across both sides of a major roadway can create a significant challenge for investigators. If officers don’t have the time, tools, or training to delve into even unusual possible factors, they could miss something crucial. That’s why a lot of serious truck wrecks end up needing independent accident reconstructionists. Since they can dedicate all of their time and effort to one thing, they can help ensure that even complex factors get attention and are brought to light. I don’t see any reason right now why such efforts wouldn’t be useful here.
