An investigation is underway into a car accident that left one person injured during the morning hours of March 24th. According to official reports, a passenger vehicle was travelling on I-35E in the northbound lanes when for unknown reasons it was involved in an accident with an 18-wheeler which caused the tractor-trailer to roll on its side.

When first responders arrived on the scene, they found that the driver of the passenger vehicle had sustained serious injuries and transported them to the hospital. When I read about a collision between a passenger vehicle and an 18-wheeler, especially one that causes a semi-truck to roll over, I’m reminded that serious crashes often raise more questions than they answer at first glance. While the initial reports from this March 24th incident on I-35E offer only a few details, there are three key questions that need to be addressed before anyone can begin to understand what really happened.

First, did the authorities thoroughly investigate the crash? The fact that the truck rolled onto its side suggests a significant impact, possibly involving complex dynamics that aren't easily pieced together without a proper accident reconstruction. Unfortunately, most police departments don’t have the resources or training to conduct that kind of detailed analysis. If investigators didn’t measure skid marks, interview all witnesses, or examine vehicle positions with precision, then we’re left with more assumptions than facts—and that’s not a foundation for understanding what happened or why.

Second, has anyone looked into whether a vehicle defect may have caused or contributed to the collision? This is a factor that often goes unexamined, especially in crashes involving large trucks. A mechanical failure—like brake malfunction or a steering issue—on either vehicle could explain how such a dramatic rollover occurred. But identifying a defect requires timely access to the vehicles and often a lab-based forensic review. If the passenger vehicle or the truck is repaired or scrapped before experts get a chance to look, we may lose critical evidence forever.

Finally, has all the electronic data related to the crash been collected? But time is of the essence—data degrades or gets overwritten quickly, and once it's gone, it's gone for good.

Until these questions are answered, it’s impossible to truly understand the causes and implications of this crash. And that’s the point: the people involved in this wreck—and the wider community—deserve answers rooted in facts, not assumptions.
