“Critical” Injuries in 18-wheeler Accident on State Thruway in Victor, NY
Victor, NY -- February 3, 2023, injuries were critical in the Fishers area following an accident on the NY Thruway involving multiple 18-wheelers.
Details released by the Fishers Fire District say that the crash happened late Friday along the Thruway approaching the I-490 interchange. Roads were snowy at the time when, for reasons unclear, at least four 18-wheelers and three other vehicles piled up.
Rescue teams reportedly had to extricate an infant from the wreckage and also said that patients were "critical". Further specifics are unavailable at this time.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Rescue workers are right to remind people they need to adjust their behavior during hazardous winter conditions, but it seems those calls for caution tend to fall on deaf ears. Pile ups like this are common in the winter months, even in areas where folks expect to see snow on the road. In all likelihood, this all was due to one or more drivers going too fast for conditions or following too closely.
Is it possible this was all something unusual, like a mechanical failure or medical emergency? Of course. I'm not suggesting investigators ignore any possibility, however unlikely it may seem. But even looking into supposedly simple factors can prove challenging for authorities if they're so busy dealing with the chaos of the crash that they don't have the time or manpower to actually investigate the crash. My hope is that local authorities here account for these hurdles and make sure the victims and families involved know they're getting the full story.
