Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
One of the biggest challenges with crashes like this is people thinking everything is open-and-shut. If authorities have someone to blame, people assume that's the end of the story. But across decades of work and countless cases, I've seen that victims and families stand the best chance of getting a just resolution when they have as much evidence as possible telling their side of the story.
Assumptions and surface-level analysis only leaves room for doubts and blame-shifting. That's why it's important to gauge how thorough authorities have been in their efforts. If they're considering all angles and getting clear answers, that's good. But if they're just filing citations and moving on, it may be best that independent investigators step in and pick up the slack.
