Arlington, TX — November 5, 2023, five people were injured following an alleged drunk driver accident just after midnight along the Tom Landry Freeway.

Authorities said in preliminary statements that the crash occurred on the westbound lanes of the service road at the Fielder Road intersection.

According to officials, police engaged in a pursuit of a Honda Civic going along I-30. That vehicle apparently exited at Fielder, then allegedly left its lane, ran across a median, and crashed into a Kia Optima on southbound lanes of Fielder. Due to this, both drivers and an 18-year-old in the Kia had incapacitating injuries, police said. Two passengers in the Honda had injuries described as non-incapacitating.

5 Injured in Alleged Drunk Driving Accident on I-30 in Arlington, TX

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Current statements allege that the Honda driver, a 20-year-old man, had been under the influence of alcohol at the time. If that allegation is true, then it would not be surprising if authorities considered some serious charges. But considering the age of the allegedly drunk driver, my hope is that part of the investigations include finding out where the driver got their alcohol.

A serious concern in communities across Texas is bars, restaurants, liquor stores, and corner stores that break the law when it comes to serving alcohol. I myself have address such actions hundreds of times through personal injury claims against those businesses for illegally over-serving a driver who caused an accident. In many of those cases, evidence also showed the business engaged in other illegal behavior. Serving minors, for example, is a common sight for a business that already has no problem breaking the rules.

So could it be that something similar led to this crash, as well? If nothing else, taking steps to ensure all parties are held appropriately accountable is a prudent goal for any investigation.
