American Airlines Worker Killed in Accident at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport
Austin, TX — April 20, 2023, an American Airlines worker was killed due to a service vehicle accident at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
Initial details released by officials say that the incident happened at around 2:00 p.m. on the tarmac where airlines drop off and pick up passengers. The exact circumstances surrounding the accident are unclear at this time.

Austin Police and Austin-Travis County EMS officials say that the crash occurred as an American Airlines worker was operating a service vehicle. The vehicle somehow crashed into a "jet bridge," which is used to get passengers from the airport terminal to the airplanes. Emergency responders came to the scene and found the unidentified worker with injuries described as "traumatic".
Ultimately, the American Airlines employee died as a result of those injuries. No other injuries were reported. Authorities have yet to specify the events leading up to the crash. There are apparently witnesses that have spoken with investigators. American Airlines released an initial statement to offer condolences to the victim's loved ones. They have not given additional statements at this time.
Investigations are ongoing.
