Queens, NY — August 6, 2024, Amesha Keys was killed following a hit-and-run bus accident along Baisley Boulevard.
According to authorities, 31-year-old Amesha Keys was on foot in the vicinity of the Baisley Boulevard and Bedell Street intersection when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a westbound bus that had been traveling on Baisley Boulevard struck Keys as it made a left turn to head south on Bedell. The bus allegedly fled the scene, the person behind the wheel failing to stop and render aid of any sort to the victim.
Keys suffered critical injuries as a result of the collision; she was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive immediate treatment. However, she was ultimately unable to overcome the severity of her injuries, having been declared deceased the day after the accident.
The person who had been behind the wheel of the bus was eventually located and arrested, according to authorities, and is apparently facing charges. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. Investigations continue.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When accidents like this occur, people often focus on the immediate circumstances, such as the left turn or the pedestrian’s location. However, in my experience, incidents involving commercial vehicles, especially hit-and-runs, often raise deeper questions about accountability and operational oversight.
What factors contributed to the bus striking Amesha Keys as it turned onto Bedell Street? Was the driver distracted or unaware of the pedestrian’s presence? Did the bus have mechanical issues, such as faulty mirrors or cameras, that made it harder to detect someone on foot? These are critical questions to determine how such an event unfolded. Additionally, why did the driver flee the scene rather than stopping to assist? Hit-and-run behavior not only compounds the harm caused but also raises serious concerns about driver conduct and company culture.
Another key aspect to investigate is the role of the bus company. Was this vehicle part of a public transit system, or was it operated by a private company? Regardless, companies are responsible for ensuring their drivers are adequately trained and adhere to all safety regulations. Did the driver have a history of negligence or reckless behavior, and were there lapses in the company’s hiring or supervision practices? Furthermore, was the vehicle properly maintained, and were its visibility aids functioning as required?
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain critical evidence, it’s essential to examine every factor to ensure those impacted by the incident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
