Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
People often jump to the conclusion that a fire at a residence must have been a resident's fault. Cooking mishaps and open flames can certainly cause fires, without a doubt. But there can also be unpredictable scenarios. Was this due to a defective appliance? Was there an issue with gas lines? This being an apartment building also raises other challenges. Were there issues with maintenance? Was there a botched installation? Have there been issues that property management ignored? These are the kinds of questions residents are going to ask, and it's important there are investigations thorough enough to provide clear answers.
