When it comes to a fatal crash like this, it’s natural for families to be concerned about the answers they’re getting—or the lack of answers. Simply put, authorities do not always conduct rigorous, thorough investigations after single-vehicle wrecks. If a department sees them as a lower priority, authorities may be left without the time or tools needed to get clear answers. That’s why it can be important for families to follow up with authorities early on to see what all they’re looking in to.
Have investigators pulled the vehicle’s Engine Control Module data? Did they examine cell phone records? Have they examined the roadway for hazards or design flaws? Did they preserve the vehicle for inspection by an experienced engineer who can rule out potential defects? Have they looked at nearby residences or businesses that may have a security camera with a view of the roadway?
If authorities can show they took the time to consider all of these factors, then it can help reassure families that their situation is in good hands. Otherwise, if the authorities come up short, it gives families an opportunity to seek out independent investigators who can help pick up the slack.
