Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

While details about this crash on Cleveland Road are limited, determining what caused the vehicles to collide requires a focused investigation.

One key area to explore is how the collision occurred. Did one of the vehicles drift out of its lane, and if so, why? Investigators should consider possible factors such as distraction, fatigue, a medical emergency or environmental conditions like low visibility or slick pavement. Evidence from the scene and witness statements will be critical in piecing together the events leading up to the crash.

The actions and behavior of the semi-truck driver also warrant careful attention. Investigators will need to determine whether the truck was operating safely and in compliance with traffic laws at the time. Data from the truck’s engine control module (ECM) and any available dashcam footage could help clarify the driver’s response and movements leading up to the crash.

Additionally, the condition and design of Cleveland Road must be evaluated. Were the lane markings clear and visible? Was the roadway adequately maintained? Issues such as narrow lanes, faded signage or sharp curves can contribute to collisions and should be part of the investigation.

Finally, investigators should examine the mechanical condition of both vehicles involved. Problems such as brake failure, tire blowouts or steering malfunctions can sometimes explain why a vehicle ends up in a collision path.

Collisions like this demand a thorough, evidence-driven investigation to uncover the contributing factors. By examining the actions of the drivers, the condition of the vehicles and the roadway environment, authorities can better understand what led to the crash and provide much-needed answers for the victim’s family.
