Kleberg County, TX — February 16, 2024, Aurelio Garcia Sr. and Aurelio Garcia Jr. were injured as the result of an alleged drunk driver accident on Corral Avenue.
Initial details from authorities say that the accident happened at around 11:15 p.m. in the area of Corral Avenue/F.M. 1898 and North 14th Street/Business 77.

According to officials, 55-year-old Aurelio Garcia Sr. and 33-year-old Aurelio Garcia Jr. were in a Dodge Ram pickup going westbound along Corral. They came to a stop for a red light at 14th Street. While there, authorities say that a Ford F-350 failed to control speed and slammed into the back of the Dodge. Due to this, Aurelio Garcia Sr. had apparently serious injuries while Aurelio Jr.’s injuries were called moderate.
The driver of the Ford was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. It’s unclear if any charges were ever filed.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Given how seriously authorities tend to take drunk driving, it wouldn’t surprise me if authorities did eventually charge the alleged drunk driver if alcohol really was a factor. It would surprise me, though, if they were equally thorough to find out where the driver got their alcohol.
I’ve had hundreds of alcohol-related accidents come across my desk. Most of the time, when we ask our clients if authorities found out where a drunk driver got their alcohol, it’s the first time they’ve heard of anything like that. Unfortunately, despite how many drunk driving wrecks involve negligent alcohol providers illegally over-serving the drunk driver, authorities just don’t tend to see anything beyond the drunk driver’s actions as a priority. As a result, other wrongdoers also responsible for a serious accident can escape consequences unless someone else picks up the slack or brings that party to their attention.
Now, maybe authorities here have been more thorough to ensure all parties who contributed to this crash are being held appropriately accountable. But if there was still some negligent local alcohol provider flying under the radar, it wouldn’t be the first time.
