Austin River Hernandez Killed in Pedestrian Accident in Houston, TX
Houston, TX -- October 30, 2022, Austin River Hernandez was killed following an accident where a vehicle struck him in the roadway.
Officials were called to the area of West Loop 610 South near Uptown Park Boulevard at around 12:20 a.m. Their statements said that 28-year-old Austin River Hernandez was walking along the service road at the time. Due to events not yet clear, a vehicle struck Hernandez in the roadway, resulting in fatal injuries. These details remain unconfirmed at this time.

Quite frankly, pedestrian accidents often go overlooked both in the news and in the police station. As often as drivers are on their phones, speeding, driving with their lights off, and driving drunk, and as often as signals are broke, lines are faded, and signage lacking, people will just automatically assume the pedestrian was doing something wrong. Obviously I wouldn't deny that happens, but I've seen first hand how harmful it can be for a grieving family—still in desperate need of answers about what happened to their loved one—to see everyone in the comments sections and social media immediately blame the victim without really knowing what happened. Getting answers should be the priority, not finding someone to blame.
