Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

There are details about this particular accident which aren’t my place to comment on specifically. What people should keep in mind, though, is that authorities do not always prioritize the needs of victims and families after a serious accident. More often, their only goal is to look for possible charges or citations. While police sometimes are thorough enough to keep investigating beyond the surface, they too often just move on once they have someone to blame.

For a family in need of answers and help, that’s not good enough. It’s why a lot of people end up seeking out independent investigators who will prioritize the needs of the family. In my experience, people don’t just want some bad guy to blame. They want to see accountability, and they want to know they’re getting the full story. So if authorities are being diligent here, their investigations should extend beyond the individuals involved and consider all of the context surrounding the crash. If they don’t take those steps, then the crash may need to be in the hands of professionals who will.
