Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
One of the challenges with an accident like this is that it can sometimes be a sign of more serious issues behind the scene. Sure, something unusual can happen or a vehicle can experience problems that aren’t entirely foreseeable or preventable. But if this happened due to poor maintenance, for example, that could be a red flag the company in charge of the bus’s repairs isn’t doing their job. Or, if the fire was caused by a manufacturing issue, other buses may have the same problem that needs to be fixed right away. This all can take careful inspections to rule out, which isn’t always within the scope of a typical police report. As such, the sooner there are more thorough investigations, the better.
