Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Single-vehicle accidents can sometimes be uniquely challenging, since they’re not always treated as a high priority by officials. This can mean that officers won’t have the time or tools they need to do a proper accident reconstruction. Naturally, people want to be sure the story is being told completely and fairly. That requires letting the evidence speak for itself.
So, I generally have the same approach following any serious accident. If people go the authorities, and authorities can address all of their questions and concerns thoroughly, it’s very likely authorities did a good job with their investigations. However, if authorities leave doubts or can’t come up with clear answers, then it’s possible a more thorough independent investigation would reveal new details.
