Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

I’ve handled hundreds of commercial vehicle accident cases, and the scenes they create are often nothing less than chaotic. It’s important investigators have as much time as possible as well as state-of-the-art tools and proper training so nothing slips through the cracks. The challenge that people often encounter is that authorities alone can’t always provide that level of thorough investigations.

Simply put, not all law enforcement agencies prioritize accident reconstruction. This means officers may not have access to all the tools they need to delve deeper than just surface-level details. That means important details—company records, defect inspections, laser mapping, etc.—may slip through the cracks unless there are independent investigators looking things over, as well. Perhaps authorities here are better equipped than most to get the victim’s loved ones the answers they deserve. In my experience, though, it’s too risky to simply wait around to find out. Every moment counts when preserving evidence.
