Houston, TX — March 12, 2025, Oscar Caal Avalos was killed as the result of a work accident that took place along Sweeney Road.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident happened at 14208 Sweeney Road, just off Aldine Mail Route Road.

After a fatal workplace incident, families are often left believing the system will take care of itself. Unfortunately, Texas law is a lot more complex than that. Employers can opt out of workers’ compensation entirely, leaving families without an automatic process to get much needed benefits. In those situations, the burden often shifts to the family to seek out their own resolution. OSHA alone will likely just focus on their own priorities, which means there usually needs to be independent steps to dig into the details more thoroughly. If that hasn’t happened here, there could still be a lot more to this story than just a few alleged violations.
