Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
While I have no specific reason to suspect authorities are mishandling this accident in particular, I'm always concerned when I see crashes that happen during inclement weather. Some departments and their officers have a habit of writing off crashes that happen during rainy weather as strictly weather-related. As a result, they might overlook all kinds of other extenuating circumstances. Did a tire blow out? Were there other issues with the roadway? Did the victim's vehicle have any sort of defects? Was there another driver involved who left the scene?
It would surprise folks how often I've seen authorities overlook crucial details that only came to light after more thorough independent investigations. Again, there could be more to this story that authorities have already worked to uncover. In my experience, though, it's sometimes more prudent to get a second set of eyes on a serious accident to ensure nothing important slipped through the cracks.
