Caitlin Fennessy Killed in Car Accident on West Cesar Chavez St in Austin, TX
UPDATE (January 19, 2022): The victim of this accident has been identified as 36-year-old Caitlin Fennessy.
Austin, TX — December 16, 2022, an unidentified woman died when her vehicle collided with a tree on West Cesar Chavez Street in Austin.
Authorities say the incident happened around 10:55 p.m. on the 1500 block of West Cesar Chavez. Investigators are still looking into the cause and circumstances of the accident, but preliminary findings suggest a Mercedes-Benz sedan was traveling east on the road when it went out of control in a curve for unconfirmed reasons. The car jumped the south curb, continued east a short distance, then hit a tree. It spun away and came to rest in a nearby ditch.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

It seems from early reports that police are still pursuing a number of possibilities about how and why the victim's car went off the road, so I hope they find clear evidence that helps them put the puzzle together. Whether this was a single-vehicle accident or another vehicle was involved as some reports suggested, the victim's loved ones deserve to know not only what happened, but also how and why—and that anyone responsible for their loss will be held accountable.
