Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

If the allegations here are true, it’s serious enough to see alcohol involved in a serious crash. The alleged drunk driver being under 21, though, raises another serious concern: Where did the alcohol come from?

People don’t often consider that alcohol providers have consequences to face, as well, when they screw up and contribute to an accident. Did the alcohol come from a corner store? A licensed bar? A restaurant? Did they serve under age driver? Did they unlawfully over-serve that person while they were already a danger to themselves or others?

I’ve handled hundreds of alcohol-related accident cases, and the official investigations too often begin and end at the crash scene. With a crash this serious, that simply wouldn’t be good enough. The families involved deserve to know the full story—especially if some local establishment is out there serving alcohol unlawfully.
