Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
One of my main concerns following single-vehicle wrecks is if the authorities are being thorough enough in their investigations. Sometimes, it turns out authorities are just more focused on looking for blame rather than actually getting answers. This is when important details can slip through the cracks.
With rollover accidents, for example, it's important to look into possible vehicle defects. Did steering or braking issues lead to a loss of control? Did seatbelts and airbags work properly? Did the vehicle hold up under the conditions of the rollover as expected?
Too often, though, those possibilities go completely overlooked. Even if they're relatively uncommon, overlooking them is often a sign that the investigations aren't really being taken seriously. Perhaps authorities here have been careful to focus on gathering evidence rather than jumping to conclusions. It's just not something I'd ever take for granted.
