Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When a single-vehicle crash leads to serious injuries, it’s easy for the case to be treated as routine. But even in situations like this, important questions need to be asked to make sure nothing gets missed.
Did the authorities dedicate enough time, tools, and resources to the investigation?
Crashes without other vehicles involved often get limited attention. If investigators didn’t reconstruct the vehicle’s path or fully examine the scene, key details may have been overlooked. These types of cases are sometimes closed quickly, especially when no outside party is involved.
Has anyone looked into the possibility that a vehicle defect caused the crash?
A sudden run-off without an obvious reason could suggest a problem with the steering, brakes, or suspension. If no mechanical inspection was done on the Ford Ranger, there’s no way to rule that out.
Has all the electronic data relating to the crash been collected?
Data from the vehicle could help explain what happened—whether there was braking, swerving, or a sudden loss of control. That information may be the only way to understand the moments before impact.
Takeaways:
- Single-vehicle crashes still require a full investigation.
- Mechanical failure can’t be ruled out without an inspection.
- Onboard data may explain what caused the vehicle to leave the road.
