Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Something to emphasize after such a serious accident is just how important it is early on to preserve evidence. Much of it can be time-sensitive, including video footage, debris patterns, signs of vehicle defects or maintenance issues, vehicle Engine Control Module data, witness testimony, etc. Each passing day can risk letting crucial evidence be repaired, destroyed, overwritten, or scattered and difficult to pin down. Ultimately getting people the help they need usually means having as many facts as possible tell their story. So while the evidence is still intact, it's best to work quickly to have experienced investigators secure and preserve as much evidence as possible.
