Commentary
It can surprise people to learn that single-vehicle accidents often end up mishandled because they're not seen as a high priority. If authorities don't take the time or make the effort to dig into even unlikely possible factors, important details can slip through the cracks.
Did a tire blowout? Did the vehicle have a defect? Did airbags and seatbelts function properly? Was there another reckless driver who left the scene? Are there issues with the road itself? Were there other extenuating circumstances the driver couldn't avoid?
Likely or not, investigators need to be able to rule out or otherwise confirm these kinds of details. Otherwise, there needs to be another set of eyes on the accident to catch whatever slips through the cracks. So if authorities here weren't up to the challenge of getting clear answers, there could still be more to this story.
