Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
A lot of the time, people see fiery truck wrecks like this and wonder what caused the crash. That's obviously important, but there's another important question I rarely ever see anyone ask: Why did the truck catch fire? The answer isn't always as simple as folks may think.
Crashes can certainly happen where the severity and nature of the crash naturally result in a large truck catching on fire. However, evidence can sometimes show that a crash involving a truck running off the road wouldn't normally result in a fire. That can sometimes be a sign of poor construction or defects from the manufacturer.
Ruling out that sort of thing requires careful, thorough analysis of both the crash and the truck itself. If authorities are too limited in the scope of their investigations, they could miss crucial evidence that is vital to getting the victim's loved ones the answers they deserve. Have authorities here taken steps to look at all potential factors surrounding the accident, or are they leaving stones unturned?
