Montgomery County, TX — November 10, 2023, Charles Watts Jr. was injured as the result of a single-vehicle accident at around 8:00 p.m. along Panther Creek Drive.
According to initial details from authorities, the crash happened in the area of West Panther Creek Drive and Shadow Bend Place.

It appears that 60-year-old Charles Watts Jr. was in a Ford Escape said to be going eastbound along Shadow Bend. At Panther Creek, the vehicle apparently continued straight at the T-intersection, went through the tree line, and ultimately careened off-road. There, the vehicle then careened into a garage.
Watts had serious injuries as a result of the crash, authorities said. There did not appear to be anyone else involved in the accident. Other details can’t be confirmed right now.

It sometimes confuses people why I ever even talk about single vehicle crashes. But folks don’t realize just how often something like this can involve factors that authorities on their own can’t adequately address. For example, if authorities don’t have the tools to look into things like road design, mechanical defects, drivers over-served by bars, faulty tires, or other less common possible factors, there may need to be independent investigators there to pick up the slack.
Is it more likely investigators simply find things like distraction, speeding, or fatigue led to the crash? Sure, but jumping to conclusions is only going to leave victims and families out in the wind with unanswered questions.
