Cheryl Bishop Injured in Car Accident on Bellfort Avenue in Houston, TX

It appears that 61-year-old Cheryl Bishop was in a Ford Edge that was going eastbound on Bellfort. Bishop reportedly had the right-of-way and was crossing Stella Link when a northbound vehicle went through the red light, crashing into Bishop’s car. As a result, Bishop sustained serious injuries. The other driver wasn’t hurt.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Authorities mentioned in their statements that the brakes on the northbound vehicle may have gone out, causing the vehicle to run the light. Did they investigate this possibility thoroughly? To be blunt, sudden brake failure is not all that common, and even when it does happen, it’s usually because the brakes were worn and needed to be replaced. But defects do happen, and they deserve attention.

Unfortunately, across the countless police investigations victims and families ask our firm to look over, I rarely ever see authorities take the time to look into things like possible mechanical defects. As a result, something that complex tends to slip through the cracks unless it’s handled by an independent accident reconstructionist who has the proper training and equipment. Did that happen here?
