Guadalupe County, TX — November 12, 2023, Cody Barton and two others were injured following a car accident at around 1:45 a.m. along I-10.
According to preliminary details released by officials, the incident happened along eastbound lanes of the interstate, west of Seguin.

Authorities said that 25-year-old Cody Wayne Barton was driving a Hyundai Genesis along the interstate at the time. Barton was apparently attempting to pass another vehicle on the left, but that vehicle left its lane. This reportedly forced the Hyundai off-road where it overturned along the median. The other vehicle then apparently left the scene.
Due to the crash, Barton and a 27-year-old woman in the Hyundai had apparently serious injuries. A man in the vehicle had moderate injuries. Authorities described the vehicle that left the scene as a red Ford Mustang. It’s unclear if authorities ever identified the runaway driver.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Even this long after an accident, runaway drivers can still be brought to answer for their actions. I even recall a time we were investigating a hit-and-run for a family, and we were able to find eye witnesses that actually wrote down the suspect’s license plate number. They went to the authorities, but somehow things slipped through the cracks, and no one ever followed up. That’s why one of the most important steps after a hit-and-run is just to keep the information in the public eye as much as possible until new information comes to light.
