Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Fires can be complex enough to investigate, but the question of how an explosion occurred can present far more significant challenges. If it started the fire (as opposed to the other way around), it raises potential concerns with the gas lines in the building. It could also be there was something like a boiler that needed to be repaired, wasn’t repaired properly, or was installed poorly to begin with.
This all can take time and specific tools to investigate properly. That’s why it tends to be prudent to follow up with authorities early and often. If it seems like they aren’t asking the right questions, then there may need to be efforts from independent investigators who can pick up the slack.
