Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
My concern with accidents involving atypical vehicles (UTVs, golf carts, scooters, e-bikes, etc.) is they often are treated as a low priority. The unusual nature of the accidents can leave authorities in a position where they're not sure how to proceed or perhaps they lack the proper equipment and training to do a proper accident reconstruction. That's when important details can slip through the cracks.
This is why I generally encourage people to follow up with authorities when possible. If authorities can provide clear, satisfactory answers, it's usually because they're doing good investigations. But when families feel details aren't adding up or questions are going unanswered, they can decide if they'd feel more comfortable having an independent investigator look things over.
