Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
If alcohol is what led to this fatal accident, have authorities looked into where that alcohol came from? While people think it’s all about just holding the alleged drunk driver accountable, there could be a negligent alcohol provider also responsible for contributing to the crash.
Similar to Texas, South Carolina has laws regarding alcohol providers like bars or restaurants being responsible for drunk driving accidents. If investigations show that an alleged drunk driver was unlawfully served by a local establishment, that establishment could end up facing consequences for their actions. If authorities have yet to look into that, then they might be missing something crucial the victim’s family needs to know about.
