Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
It’s encouraging anytime a potentially deadly situation ends with the victim being able to get back to their loved ones. It’s surprising to me the news doesn’t give more attention to work accidents, as there are countless workers who end up in similar or worse conditions that simply slip through the cracks.
That’s part of why I get so many calls from folks who aren’t even sure what they’re supposed to do after a work-related accident. OSHA and workers’ comp rarely solves all of a family’s problems. Even in situations where workers get the treatment they need, they’re often left with unanswered questions or burdened with the weight of those necessary procedures that their employers won’t lift a finger to help with.
Like I said, seeing headlines like the ones on this story are a silver lining when it comes to how bad workplace accidents can get. But at the end of the day, even stories like this can have a lot more going on behind the scenes than what a news story might suggest.
