Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

It’s rather unusual for multiple people to be in the same vehicle, but only one person is hurt—seriously so. Maybe the preliminary statements are mistake, or maybe there were unusual circumstances that could explain this outcome.

For example, have authorities inspected the vehicle for potential defects? Something like a faulty airbag or seatbelt could easily result in someone suffering serious injuries when they would otherwise be fine. Even entire chair assemblies have been known to fail and cause more dire outcomes for victims. These kinds of factors require careful inspection of the vehicle.

Likely or not, these are the kinds of things a thorough accident reconstruction should be able to cover. If authorities haven’t looked into those things, that could be a sign they’re overlooking other important possibilities.
