Daymoni Batts, 1 Injured in Possible Drunk Driver Accident in Burleson County, TX
Burleson County, TX — March 2, 2025, Daymoni Batts and one other person were injured following a possible drunk driver accident at around 8:21 p.m. on Highway 36.
According to initial details about the accident, it happened in the Lyons area off TX-36 and F.M. 60.

Investigators said that 20-year-old Daymoni Sharday Batts was on foot at the time near a disabled vehicle in the roadway. A child was also outside the vehicle. While there, it appears a Dodge Ram 3500 struck both Daymoni Batts and the child.
Due to the collision, Daymoni Batts and the child had reportedly serious injuries. No other injuries were reported. Authorities allege that the Dodge driver had been drinking, but it's unclear if they considered charges.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
While alcohol was not confirmed as a cause of this accident, it obviously raises red flags anytime it comes up as a possibility. Not only could there be serious consequences to consider for a potentially drunk driver, but there could be a complex investigation ahead if that driver was unlawfully over-served by an alcohol provider.
In Texas, drunk drivers and alcohol providers can both be responsible for contributing to a serious crash. If somewhere like a bar, for example, serves someone who is obviously intoxicated, and that person's intoxication leads to people getting hurt or killed, alcohol providers can face consequences. These can include fines, suspended licenses, criminal investigations, and liability for the resulting injuries.
The reason I bring this up specifically is because it often goes overlooked. I've handled hundreds of alcohol-related accident cases. Rarely do authorities take it upon themselves to investigate beyond a crash scene. That's especially true if they already have a drunk driver to file charges against. So while it's not yet clear if alcohol was indeed a factor in this crash, there is more than enough reason to be concerned whether or not authorities are truly giving this accident the attention it deserves.
