Authorities say the incident happened around 3:00 p.m. on Meridiana at Sterling Lakes West. Preliminary investigation suggests Celaya-Tomeck was driving a BMW X3 SUV west on the roadway when she allegedly began a U-turn toward the eastbound lanes. An International truck was traveling behind the BMW and couldn't avoid it during the U-turn; the vehicles collided in the roadway. After the impact both ran onto the grassy shoulder and came to rest.

Commentary on Deanna Celaya-Tomeck Accident in Iowa Colony
Police blamed this accident on someone turning when unsafe. Maybe they're right and that's the main factor, but I've also learned over the years to take preliminary reports with a grain or two of salt until I can be sure I'm looking at all the facts. What if there's more to the story in Iowa Colony?
I'm not saying things have to be more complicated than an ill-timed U-turn, but did authorities even look into it? Anything from bad road conditions to mechanical failures in the vehicle to a blown tire to the truck following too closely could have factored into the collision. Are any of those particularly likely? Not necessarily, but they can't be dismissed just because a once-over at the scene yielded a "good enough" story for reports. If important details slip through the cracks and the story is told wrong, that could be a real problem for the victim down the road. Click below to read more.
