Deborah Kay King, 2 Injured in Car Accident on N. Austin Ave. in Denison, TX
UPDATE (March 5, 2024): Recent reports have been released which clarify some of the details of what occurred leading up to and during this accident. According to these reports, a 34-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were traveling in an eastbound Ram 1500 pickup truck on West Gandy Street approaching the North Austin Avenue intersection when the accident occurred.
Officials indicate that the pickup truck failed to stop at the stop sign and was allegedly traveling speeds above the posted limits. It reportedly entered the intersection at an unsafe time, resulting in a collision between the front end of the Ram pickup truck and the passenger side of a southbound Chevy pickup truck occupied by 61-year-old Deborah King.
King incurred suspected severe injuries as a result of the accident, while the two people from the Ram sustained apparently moderate injuries. All three were transported to local medical facilities by emergency medical services in order to receive necessary treatment.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Authorities allege that the driver of the Dodge Ram was over two and a half times the legal limit for drunk driving. They recommended charges for intoxication assault due to the injury of Deborah King. If the allegations prove to be true, did authorities also look into where the Dodge driver was prior to the wreck? If evidence shows they were over-served by a local bar or restaurant, that establishment may also be responsible for this accident. Frankly, it's something that authorities too often overlook. Maybe they were more thorough here, but I learned a long time ago in my career not to hold my breath when independent investigations could pick up whatever slack authorities leave behind them.
