Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Any multi-vehicle collision is bound to create a chaotic scene for the authorities. That's why it's important their investigators are prepared to be as thorough as possible and get clear answers. Sometimes, though, authorities aren't willing to put in that level of effort.
Car accidents aren't always a high priority, and that can leave otherwise skilled officers without enough time or resources to do their jobs properly. If victims and families don't have safety measures in place to help them pick up the slack, they can end up with incomplete or inaccurate reports.
That's when independent investigators can be helpful, as they're dedicated professionals whose priority is to gather evidence and make sure those involved in the crash know the whole story. Those efforts here might just show that authorities did a good job on their own. However, it wouldn't be unusual if they revealed new details.
