Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Any mention of alcohol is always serious and raises red flags. But people often think that just leads to charges against the drunk driver, and that's that. However, anytime drunk driving leads to a crash, it's important to know where that alcohol came from.
In Texas, bars, restaurants, and other establishments can be responsible for contributing to a crash caused by an intoxicated driver whom they over-served. That means both drunk drivers and negligent alcohol providers putting dangerous drivers on the road can face consequences when their actions lead to serious accidents.
So if evidence does ultimately show that alcohol caused this crash, it's important the investigations go beyond the crash scene. Drunk drivers obviously need to be held accountable, but they may just be the tip of the iceberg.
