Elijah Johnson Killed in Single-Vehicle Accident on NE Green Oaks in Arlington, TX
UPDATE (February 17, 2023): Tarrant County officials released the name of the victim. They say 22-year-old Elijah Johnson died as a result of the crash, but they did not give additional details about the crash itself. Investigations are ongoing.
Arlington, TX -- February 12, 2023, one person was killed after an accident where their vehicle crashed along NE Green Oaks Boulevard.
Officials said that the crash took place at around 3:50 a.m. along NE Green Oaks Boulevard near Collins Street.
It appears that an unidentified driver was in a Chevy Cruze traveling along NE Green Oaks. Somehow, the vehicle ran off the side of the road and hit a tree.
The driver of the Chevy sustained fatal injuries due to the crash. No one else was said to be involved.

The only other thing authorities have said about the crash is that they believe the driver wasn't wearing a seatbelt. I can't help wondering how they know that.
Some might think it would be obvious—did they have their seatbelt on when emergency responders found them? But past incidents show that's not a reliable standard. Seatbelts can break, they can come unlatched, they can fail to lock properly, and sometimes whole seat assemblies can come loose.
Authorities aren't generally equipped to handle something so intricate, which is why that sort of issue rarely comes to light without more thorough independent accident reconstructions. Perhaps the details surrounding this crash are more obvious, but I've seen far too many single-vehicle which authorities treated as a low priority to trust what they say without seeing the evidence for myself.
