Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

When it comes to car accidents, people can often assume that authorities are going to get as much evidence as possible for the victims and families involved. In reality, that’s not always how things go. I get calls all the time from folks who feel authorities weren’t giving their crash enough attention. Sometimes, authorities don’t have the time or manpower. Other times, their departments don’t give them the right equipment. And there are even times authorities are just focused on blaming someone rather than hearing their side of the story. It’s one of the reasons preliminary investigations are best taken with a grain of salt. Independent accident reconstructionists can help delve into the facts more thoroughly. They could find that authorities were fair and thorough in their own efforts, or they may uncover evidence authorities overlooked. Either way, there could always be more to the story than the initial reports let on.
