A common issue I run into when people call me about various accidents is that authorities are not always as thorough as people assume. There’s a tendency for folks to assume authorities have crack CSI teams looking into every accident and getting every minuscule detail at a crash scene. In reality, few departments make these kinds of efforts.
For example, I rarely see authorities examine vehicles for defects. Drivers can experience sudden steering issues, brake failure, tire blowouts, or rollovers due to manufacturing issues they weren’t aware of. This can take special training and tools to properly analyze. That’s usually something that requires independent experts who are more familiar with defects. Sometimes, authorities take steps to have those professionals examine a victim’s vehicle. A lot of the time, though, they simply ignore defects as unlikely, and they move on without getting clear answers one way or the other.
Perhaps authorities here were more thorough. They may be able to provide the victim’s loved ones with clear answers that leave them without any lingering doubts. However, I’ve lost count of how many times families sought out a second opinion because they found that authorities couldn’t give them any clear answers. It wouldn’t be unusual if that happened here.
