Eugene Reed Williams Injured in Car Accident in Collin County, TX
Collin County, TX — March 10, 2024, Eugene Reed Williams was injured following a car accident at around 9:25 p.m. along County Road 489.
Authorities said they were called to the area of County Road 489 and County Road 488 around Lavon Lake.

According to current information, 73-year-old Eugene Williams was in a 2018 Chevy Silverado going eastbound along County Road 489. For reasons unclear, the vehicle went off the side of the road. There, it crashed into a tree. Authorities say that Williams had serious injuries due to the crash. No further information can be confirmed.
What exactly did authorities mean by saying the injuries here were "serious? Let me explain why I ask this. Any injury is significant, of course, but authorities usually say "serious" when injuries are critical or life-threatening. If that's what they meant here, as well, that strikes me as somewhat unusual.
To be clear up front, I don't know anything about this specific crash beyond what's already publicly available. But authorities didn't say the victim was speeding. They didn't say anything about him not wearing a seatbelt or his airbags not going off. This appears to be a relatively modern truck that should have decent safety features if they're functioning correctly. So are authorities leaving out details that could clear this up? Was this just a freak occurrence? Or could it be something unusual happened that authorities aren't properly investigating?
