Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Any deadly accident is going to present unique challenges for investigators. Putting a commercial truck into the mix is only going to complicate things further. I've handled hundreds of commercial vehicle accident cases, and one of the first steps one can take is just making sure the crash is in the hands of experienced investigators.
Any given police department may have the funding, trained personnel, and time needed for such a complex accident reconstruction. Frankly, though, officers in a rural police or sheriff's department are likely to see one, maybe two crashes like this across their whole career. As such, if it seems like authorities might be in over their heads, getting the crash in the hands of independent accident reconstructionists may be crucial for preserving important evidence early on. The stakes for a family affected by a deadly truck wreck are just too high to leave up to chance.
