Two Killed in Semi-Truck Accident on Highway 86 near Salton City, CA
Salton City, CA — April 3, 2023, two people were killed as the result of a semi-truck accident on Highway 86 outside of Salton City.
Authorities said that the incident happened just after 3:30 p.m. north of the Border Patrol checkpoint, northwest of Brawley.
According to officials, a vehicle was going along the highway when a semi-truck somehow rear-ended it. This forced the vehicle into the back of a second truck. Due to this, two people in the passenger vehicle sustained fatal injuries. No other injuries were reported.

There isn't anymore confirmed information here, but frankly, a rear-end collision like this is almost always avoidable. It's usually the result of something like distracted driving, speeding, or following too closely. But it's always important for the sake of the victims and their families to make sure the evidence speaks for itself.
For all we know, this was an unusual, unavoidable situation involving something like a mechanical failure. It could also be a simple matter of a truck driver texting and driving. It's even possible this was a series of harmful decisions like a case I handled where a company demanding drivers meet ludicrous deadlines led to a driver falling asleep after driving for over 20 hours straight.
Simple or not, ensuring all possible factors get attention is crucial in these situations. Two people lost their lives, and that demands clear answers. That's why my sincere hope here is that authorities are taking the time to ensure they're not overlooking anything important.
