Five Killed, One Injured in Truck Accident on Hwy. 142 in Newton County, GA
Newton County, GA — April 8, 2023, five people were killed and another was injured in a truck accident around 3 p.m. on Hwy. 142 in Newton County.
Authorities report a van and a pickup truck collided head-on while traveling on Hwy. 142. The collision reportedly forced the van to catch fire and the pickup truck to rotate 90 degrees and come to a stop blocking both lanes of traffic.
The five occupants in the van suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the accident scene. the pickup truck driver was taken to a hospital with reportedly life-threatening injuries.
Officials may be withholding the victim's names until the next of kin is notified.
It was reportedly raining during the accident, however, authorities have not released if that had anything to do with the cause of the accident. There are no further updates at this time.
