Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Single-vehicle accidents like this one often seem straightforward, but they can involve underlying complexities that deserve close attention. When a vehicle loses control and crashes, it’s essential to ask some key questions to ensure the investigation is thorough.
First, did authorities have the time and resources to properly examine the crash? Factors like road hazards, poor visibility, or environmental conditions could explain why the vehicle veered off course. Were these possibilities carefully evaluated?
Second, could a vehicle defect have contributed to the accident? Mechanical failures, such as brake or steering issues, or safety system problems like faulty seatbelts, might have played a role. A detailed inspection of the vehicle is critical to rule out any defects.
Finally, was electronic evidence preserved? The vehicle’s Engine Control Module (ECM) may contain data about speed, braking, and steering inputs, while GPS data or nearby surveillance footage could provide additional context. Acting quickly to secure this evidence is crucial.
By asking these questions, folks can gauge whether the answers they get are satisfactory. If so, it's likely a sign authorities did good, thorough investigations, If not, the crash may need a second look from more thorough investigators.
