Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Anytime authorities bring up alcohol, it raises significant concerns. One of the concerns that too often goes overlooked, though, is where that alcohol may have come from. I’ve handled hundreds of alcohol-related accident cases, and many involve negligent alcohol providers who can also be responsible for contributing to the accident.

Simply put, it’s unlawful in Texas to serve alcohol to someone who is obviously intoxicated. An establishment that does so may be responsible for resulting harm that person’s intoxication causes to themselves or others. But if authorities are solely focused on the crash scene, they may overlook this important detail.

That’s why it’s important crashes like this receive thorough investigations that extend beyond the accident site and include potential outside parties whose unlawful actions may have led to multiple people getting hurt.
