Gilberto Olvera Injured in Alleged Drunk Driving Accident in McAllen, TX
McAllen, TX — December 19, 2022, Gilberto Olvera was injured in a crash with an alleged drunk driver around 2:14 a.m. on W. Business Hwy. 83 in McAllen.
Crash investigators report Gilberto Olvera's Nissan Frontier was the first vehicle stopped at a red light on W. Business 83 Hwy facing westbound at the intersection with North 23rd St. A Hyundai Elantra was purportedly behind Gilberto Olvera's Nissan also stopped at the red light.
According to officials, a Kia Forte failed to control its speed and crashed into the back of the Elantra, sending the Elantra forward into Gilberto Olvera's Nissan Frontier.
Crash investigators report Gilberto Olvera suffered serious injuries, Gilberto Olvera's passenger has possible injuries, and no one else was injured.
Police recommended charging the Kia Forte driver with DWI, Public Intoxication, and Driving Without a License. Police also report the Kia Forte driver was 1.5 times over the legal limit.
