Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
A lot can go wrong to cause a crash like this. From weather conditions to medical emergencies to mechanical defects—it takes a lot of time, training, and specialized tools to sort through the evidence of an aircraft accident. Federal agencies can generally handle that, but it may take them months to finally release any details. If families don't have independent professionals working to get answers in the meantime, they may be waiting just as long as the public to get any information about what went wrong. Maybe officials will be more prompt than usual here, but it's not something I would take for granted.
