Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
There obviously will have to be a close look at the equipment here, how it was installed or maintained, and what ultimately caused the explosion. On top of that, though, Texas work accident law happens to be more complex than in any other state in the country. Despite what many people think, there isn't always a guaranteed path for getting workers the help they need to get back on their feet.
So while some folks may be content to brush this off as just something for OSHA to work on, the reality is their efforts alone are rarely enough to resolve serious work accidents in Texas. More often, there needs to be a prompt, thorough investigation from independent professionals both to address the problems that led to the accident and to see there's a fair resolution for the workers and families affected.
